Coast

I first visited Walberswick in the mid 1990s and fell instantly under its spell. I still cannot believe how lucky I am to be living just a few minutes drive from this place. To me it is totally magical. I love the dunes with their drifts of marram grass, the black painted beach huts, the shallow swimming and sandy banks under the waves, the summer crowds with their stripy windbreaks, the crabbing, the harbour and the ferry.

It is old fashioned and charming, but, like the rest of this coast, it is also highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The sea eats away at the fragile dunes every year. My paintings are a celebration of this ever-changing place, and I hope they capture some of its amazing qualities. These works vary in size, the largest from around 1 metre x 75 cms (40 ins x 30 ins).
